The Best Day to Get Gas

According to a study conducted by Gas Buddy, Monday is the best day to get gas. On the other end of the spectrum, Friday and Saturday are the worst days to buy it. Sundays didn’t fall too far behind in the worst days to fill up as well.

Is there a Best Time to Buy Gas?

Now that you know the best day to fill up, what about the best time? Generally, the best time to get gas is early in the morning. This is for two reasons. One, you aren’t subject to any late in the day price changes. Two, the lines are typically fairly low early in the morning on your way to work.

Should You Run Your Fuel Tank Empty?

Knowing that Mondays is the best day to get gas, should you wait until Monday no matter how low your tank gets? Experts recommend that you don’t do that. They say that if you continually run your tank empty, your tank loses the protection that fuel provides. This could put undue stress on the fuel tank, causing it to wear out prematurely.

While it’s a nice idea to wait until Monday to get the lowest prices, if you find yourself low enough that you are on fumes, just fill up.

If you are in a position where you can wait until Monday to get gas, you may save a dollar or two at the pump. While it doesn’t sound like much, if you fill up every week, that adds up to at least $100 in savings per year. Over a 20-year period, you could save $2,000. Look at the big picture to see how savings can add up.
